Under the title “Gabriele Münter, the great expressionist painter”, the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum hosts the exhibition covers the work of one of the founders of Der Blaue Reiter (“The Blue Rider”), the transcendental Munich group of expressionist artists from the beginning of the 20th century. More than a hundred paintings (four of them from the Museum's permanent collections), drawings, engravings and photographs in the first retrospective of the German artist in Spain. 

The exhibition begins with Münter's beginnings as an amateur photographer, a facet that would mark her later development. The exhibition continues with her pictorial creations in a chronological-thematic journey that begins with her work during her travels across Europe and North Africa and continues with her masterpieces from the period of “The Blue Rider”. Finally, the presentation focuses on her exile in Scandinavia during the First World War and the different forms of expression experienced after he returned to Germany.
