The exhibition “Ecce Homo. ”The Lost Caravaggio“ at the Prado Museum is a unique opportunity to discover a painting recently attributed to the great Italian Baroque master Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio (1571-1610). The work arrives on loan for nine months.
In the Ecce Homo, we can appreciate the author's chiaroscuro technique and his ability to communicate deep emotions through his brushwork, presenting a scene of great spiritual and human intensity. The exhibition includes interactive elements that allow you to explore technical and scientific details of the work of one of the most influential artists of his time, enriching the educational experience. The Prado Museum itself contributed to the rediscovery in 2021 of this oil painting initially attributed to a student of José de Ribera. It is considered one of the greatest finds in the history of art, since only about 60 ”caravaggios“ are preserved in the world.
