Each year the town of Barbastro in Huesca recreates the Passion and death of Christ with 12 religious processions through its streets.
Easter in Barbastro centres on its processions. These parades take to the town's streets to show the religious images of its churches. The processions recreate different episodes of the Passion and the death of Christ through religious sculptures that are carried through the streets, accompanied by the music of drums and cornets. One of the most interesting of Barbastro's 12 processions is the Santo Entierro - the burial of Christ. It takes place on Easter Friday, with the participation of all the town's cofradías (religious associations or confraternities). The origins of this celebration in Barbastro go back to the Middle Ages and the 13th century.
