Lake As Pontes beach
Pontes de García Rodríguez, As
A Coruña
In 2012 the old open-pit mine that supplied the As Pontes de García Rodríguez power plant was transformed into the country’s largest artificial lake with the help of the water that was diverted from the river Eume river as well as rain water. This artificial lake, which is 5 kilometres long and 200 metres deep, has been converted into a space for leisure and sports. Its lakeside beach offers the possibility to enjoy water sports and there are also hiking trails around the area. In fact, it is the first inland beach in the province of A Coruña to be awarded Blue Flag status.
